With 965 nuns the congregation is spread through out India and is involved in providing educational, social and medical services apart from providing pastoral care. Ever since its inception the congregation has worked and is working for the poor, less privileged, dalits and marginalized sections of the community.
The villages where the congregation works are entirely Dalit villages.The dalit population in this area is about 75,000 to one lakh (100,000) people in the project area and adjoining areas. (The dalits are the untouchables of the Indian society and face discrimination from other castes in the form of untouchability and face a number of social disabilities.) The project area is about 100 kilometers (kms) (60 miles) from the state capital — Chennai. The nearest important towns are Vanddvasi (25 kms), Achrapakkam (10 kms) and Sothupakkam (5 kms).
